Bake Sale 2.0

It's the night before our second bake sale and I have concocted some very superior cookies. Hopefully they'll sell somewhat effectively otherwise I'll be disappointed and disconsolate. I'll probably have to buy them myself.

At least I get to eat them...

UPDATE: The bake sale was a the second failure in terms of bake sales because not enough members brought food to sell. So disappointing.

Bake Sale - So Hungry

We've organized a bake sale to take place on Wednesday during break and lunch to raise some funds for transport. The students of Kilinochchi will take a bus to OSC with this money...

The bake sale was surprisingly very successful! We made about 7000 rupees which is a good starting point but another bake sale may be organized to boost funds.

Fundraising Update!

It sounds as though the fashion show is going to be too difficult to pull of because the fundraiser itself needs to relate to something of global importance or needs to involve the students of Kilinochchi in a way. Gecko Inc. believes that the students of Kilinochchi wouldn't be interested in something like that.

Our next idea is to hold a small basketball tournament that would require a small fee/donation to enter a team of 4 players into the competition. The Kilinochchi team would not have to pay of course. We think this would be a more effective and enjoyable use of the short time we have with them.

New Fundraising Proposition!

The new idea for raising enough funds to help the children at Kilinochchi primary, is very strange but apparently very effective. A fashion show is being planned to take place early next year and a bake sale to compliment the event! The general idea is to have an appropriate theme for the clothing and ask for a small donation for the opportunity to walk the runway, just like a supermodel!

The one big issue with this fundraiser is time. We don't really have as much time as we would like to have, so planning this event is going to be difficult. The hardest part will be acquiring sponsors for the fashion show in such a limited amount of time...

Gecko Inc.'s Ultimate Goal!

Gecko Inc.'s ultimate goal is to help children within Colombo that are experiencing poverty. We aren't necessarily stopping the poverty but we give them the opportunity to utilize the sports equipment that OSC owns.

My goals for CAS

Creativity: I will be planning a fundraiser with my service group. I want to achieve the required amount of funding to get the activity going smoothly and be as involved with the process as much as I can. I have also started to take piano lessons outside of school for the purpose of learning an entirely new instrument and trying something new.

Action: I plan on developing my skills in basketball by training regularly throughout the week and possibly on the weekends. I want to make the SAISA basketball team and win the tournament. I'm also considering joining a basketball team outside of school to improve and maintain my skills.

Service: I am involved in a service called Gecko Inc. Our main goal is to host a group of kids from another school and teach them the basics of multiple sports. They don't have the facilities to play these sports and so we're giving them the opportunity to do so. I think being a part of a service group will improve my collaboration skills because we (the service group) have to work together effectively in order to achieve our common goal and also taking part in activities with children of a different age group and background. I will also gain experience in organizing and carrying out activities on a big scale.

My goals for 2013-15

Academic Goals: I want to maintain an average score of 5 in all my classes. That means I need to study more often and stop doing assignments the day before it's due...

I still need to drastically improve on my time management. Setting some time in the afternoon to start and complete my work will be a step towards managing this issue.

Personal Goals: I want to start training for SAISA basketball so I'm prepared when try-outs start next year.

Gecko Inc.

I'm involved in an activity that takes place on Thursday afternoons called Gecko Inc. The purpose of this service is to invite a group of kids from a different school and teach them the basics of a variety of sports. The children's school doesn't have the same facilities as OSC, so this gives them an opportunity to broaden their horizons in terms of sport.

So far, the meetings have consisted of planning the days on which the kids will come over to the school. Fundraising ideas have also been discussed which will enable us to hire coaches to make sure the day runs smoothly. Being part of a group that are working collaboratively to achieve the same goal will give me experience in co-operating with others and teach me the process of managing and executing an activity.
